United Way a Winner by Rick Lomore

The Pembroke Curling Club recently hosted the annual United Way Bonspiel to help raise funds for the local groups helped by this organization. Sixteen teams were vying for donated prizes in a fun event. Thanks go out to Mike McCarter and countless other volunteers who organize this annual spiel.

Here are the local results of Club draws as of Tuesday morning.

In the Monday night competitive league, the “A” side is lead by Jeff Faught, closely followed by Shawn Patterson and Peter Copis. The “B” grouping is headed up by Tony Martin and Paul Bourne, while the “C” curlers are led by Mike Thompson.

Tuesday Ladies’ night has Marjorie Walker and Lori Donovan leading the pack.

The Wednesday night “fixed” mixed draw has Mike McCarter out in front with Harv Robertson and Rick Lomore breathing down his neck. The second group of Wednesday curlers is being led by Bob Gauthier.

Thursday night sees Emile Robert out in front, while Friday night’s social butterflies are being paced by Paul Bourne and Marcel Jonckheere.

Finally, Sunday’s morning madness crew has the teams of Larry Smith and Dennis Lafreniere on top.

Curlers please note that the accuracy of these results depend on teams posting their wins and/or losses in a timely fashion.

On an rules/etiquette note, just a reminder that when the non-delivering team is waiting while the other team throws their rock, the lead and second are required to be standing between the hog lines. While this is not usually a problem in club curling, there are occasionally skips that will say they find it annoying if three or four curlers are standing behind the house.
