It’s a New Year by Rick Lomore

Hello again. It’s been a long hiatus from curling tid bits from the region for a variety of personal issues and probably some turkey induced laziness, but we’re back.

The normal schedule of curling at the club resumed last week with a few alterations. Thursday night was reorganized by convenor Emile Robert, putting together a six team round robin. There is still room for interested people to play in this.

The loss of a Monday night team led to a shuffling of that draw so that the possibility of having two games on a Thursday night was eliminated.

The Seniors schedule was axed at the start of last week to accommodate the hosting of the O.C.A. zone 3 Masters play downs. A total of 12 teams (9 men’s’ and 3 women’s’) competed for the right to advance to the Regional playoffs in Ottawa in two weeks time. The Pembroke club’s Bill Wilson rink survived one scare but will go ahead as they won the “B” final. The other members of Wilson’s crew were Rick Lomore at vice, second Ken Ahronson and lead Ron Ross. The women’s team consisting of skip Joan McConeghy, vice Edna Mulvihill, second Lise Levasseur and lead Helen Bresseau will also be heading off to the regionals to be held at Ottawa’s Granite Club starting Saturday January 26. If you’re in Ottawa that weekend drop by to see some excellent curling and give a boost to your club mates.

The coming weekend sees a number of teams traveling to competitions out of the Valley. Peter Copis and Bill Wilson take their mixed teams to North Bay while Emile Robert leads a third mixed foursome into the O.V.C.A. Mixed in Ottawa.

In closing, please remember to recycle- we all do it at home, let’s do it at the club.

Keep sliding, folks.
