New Year Standings by Rick Lomore

This week’s curling news starts off with results from the regular club’s weekly draws, thoughtfully provided by Peter Copis helping out a cold-riddled columnist.

Leading the 'A' division of the Monday night select team draw are Tony Martin and Dave Trautrim, both with a 3 and 1 record.

On top of the 'B' division are Paul Bourne and Al Corrin, both with a 4 and 1 record.

Heading the 'C' division is Roy Barker at 5 and 0, followed closely by Bill Wilson at 4 and 1 and by Brent Lundy at 4 and 2.

The Wednesday mixed league’s second individual entry draw is underway and teams skipped by Bob Gauthier and Barb McDowell are currently tied for first place, each with a 4 and 1 record.

Mike McCarter is running away with the show in the fixed team entry, sporting a perfect 11 and 0 record with 9 games to go.  In second place are teams skipped by Rick Lomore (8 and 2) and Harv Robertson (8 and 3).

The first draw of the Sunday morning league is over and it was Larry Smith and his team of Ron Ross, Ashley Thomson and Daniel Lizotte who took top spot with a 7 and 1 record.

A number of club teams tested the out of town waters and all represented the club well. Teams led by Peter Copis and Bill Wilson traveled up to North Bay to take part in a mixed spiel and both won several games.

Foursomes skipped by Marcel Jonckheere and Emile Robert traveled down the Ottawa to the O.V.C.A. Mixed, Marcel in the open division and Emile in the senior draw. Jonckheere won his first two games then lost two close extra enders. Robert’s crew managed to win three games to get to the “A” semifinal before bowing out to a crack team from the Navy club.

Don’t forget that two Pembroke teams, skipped by Joan McConeghy and Bill Wilson will be competing in the Regional playdowns for Masters (over 60 years of age) honours and the right to advance to the provincial finals. All games will be held at the Ottawa Granite club on Scott St. starting this Saturday morning. See the O.C.A. website (http://www.ontcurl.com) for complete draw times. The teams would be happy to see supporters.

Have a smooth slide!
