Get Ready for SnoSpree by Rick Lomore

Preparations are coming along for this year’s SnoSpree bonspiel which will take place starting Friday evening, February 1and continues on Saturday. Entry fee is $100.00 a team or $25.00 for a single curler who will be placed on a team. There are prizes for each draw, table snacks on Friday night and pizza Saturday. Contact Jeff Faught (613-687-6404) or the Club for more info or to enter, but hurry.

Several draws at the club are approaching a finish, including the ladies’ Tuesday night where my informants tell me “the results are being finalized”. The Monday night competitive league has one game left and the final results there are also still up in the air.

Two teams from Pembroke travelled to the Granite club of Ottawa to take part in the regional playoffs for the O.C.A. Masters. A women’s team consisting of Joan McConeghy (skip), Edna Mulvihill, Lise Levasseur and Helen Bresseau played well but came up short of advancing to provincial level. The men’s crew of Bill Wilson (skip), Rick Lomore, Ken Ahronson and Ron Ross won their first game but then came up against two more experienced and polished teams and bowed out on Sunday morning.

The renewal of an invitational mixed bonspiel at the club is going ahead February 23rd and 24th : see Marcel Jonckheere (613-687-6677) for details.

In the wider world of curling, Glenn Howard’s team was a repeat winner of the Capital One Masters of Curling and Sherry Middaugh is the Ontario representative at the Tournament of Hearts.

Have a smooth slide!
