Leaders Declared by Rick Lomore

As we wend our way through another winter, several draws at the club have come to an end. In the Monday night competitive league, two divisions had clear winners. The 'C' division winner was the Roy Barker, Bob Gauthier, Ron Ross, Jerry Pleau team. The 'B' division winners were  Al Corrin, Dennis Lafreniere, Paul Hemsworth, and Dan Stewart. The 'A' division is a bit more complicated. Teams skipped by Peter Copis and Tony Martin are in top spot with a record of 4 and 2 but are waiting for Dave Trautrim (4 and 1) to make up a game.  If Trautrim wins his make-up game he will win the draw outright but if he loses it will force a shoot-out to determine the winner.

Tuesday night ladies, after a hard-fought half season declared a winner last week, and it was the team of Lori Donovan at skip, ably assisted by Jane Loftus, Colleen Sullivan and Geraldine Wilcox which came out on top.

SnoSpree has come and gone for another year. On the curling front this year’s bonspiel saw 16 teams play three games and have a lot of fun with pizza on Saturday. There were 4 winning teams skipped by Marjorie Walker, Larry Fisher, Larry Freeman and Ed Lindeman.

In the world outside of the Ottawa Valley, provincial and national playdowns are occurring this week. The Canadian Juniors are playing in Sault Ste. Marie while the Ontario TSC Stores Tankard is being held at Waterloo where current Canadian and World champion Glenn Howard has to be an overwhelming favorite. Pembroke’s Phil Loevenmark is playing with Peter Corner and at the time of writing they are doing well with a 3-1 record. If you have access to Roger’s cablevision you can catch two draws a day.

A tip for beginning skips: keep the back of the house clean- make sure you move out-of-play rocks to the back board to avoid those nasty broken ribs when people trip over a stone.

May your slide be long and true.
