“A” Finals, Finally by Rick Lomore

Results have finally been posted for the Monday night competitive curling “A” division. After a hard-fought draw three teams ended up with identical 4-2 records. Each team had defeated the other so the final decision came down to a draw to the button competition. Dave Trautrim managed to come closest to the sweet spot, relegating Tony Martin and Peter Copis to silver and bronze positions.

This last weekend saw four Pembroke teams slither up to Deep River for their annual cash spiel and clam bake. None of the teams, skipped by Emile Robert, Jeff Faught, Carl Zieroth and Marcel Jonckheere managed to win an event, but all survived the noxious fumes floating at head height in the barbeque tent.

At the Club, preparations are in hand for the revival of our mixed spiel. The draw has been filled but tickets for the dinner, catered by East Side Mario’s may be available. Contact the Club or Marcel Jonckheere for information.

The latest fund raising appeal is to replace our brine pump which seems to be on life support. All donations are gratefully accepted. Note that the Canadian Curling Association has a Club Development Fund which can be accessed by member clubs and allows for tax deductible donations of $100 or more. Check with your Club representatives for more information.

On the pro side, the Tournament of Hearts is on out west and is available for viewing on TSN. Ontario’s Sherri Middaugh is near the top of the leader board as this column is written.

Have a smooth slide!
