Spring Cashspiel a Winner by Rick Lomore
Last weekend saw the latest session of the annual spring cashspiel, again capably organized and run by Carl Zieroth and his usual cast of volunteers. Competition started on Thursday night and finished late Sunday afternoon, with teams coming from North Bay, Ottawa, Carleton Place and places in between. When the dust settled, the “A” winner was the mixed team of M. Hums, skipped by Rob Gray from Carleton Place. “B” winner was A. Kuehl from Shawville, “C” winner was Barb Kelly from Ottawa and the “D” winner was local skip Paul Bourne.
The same weekend saw three ladies’ teams head off to Prescott for a two game ‘spiel. The Diane Corrin rink was the two game winner, Lois Copis’ crew had the one game high while Laurie Fraser and her gals won kudos for the grace of their shooter rolls.
In league play, Tony Martin was the eventual winner of the “A” division. Playoffs started Monday for the Monday league and wrap up next Monday. Wednesday curlers are in the midst of their playoffs while the Tuesday ladies have one more game left in their season, with Vicky Burnison leading the pack with a sparkling 7- 0 record.
Again a reminder about the closing bonspiel. This will be held April 11 12 and will be combined with the final banquet. Make sure you sign up to curl- the list is filling quickly. Details are posted on the Club web site (http://pembroke.ovca.com).
Have a smooth slide!
